• Question: When I look into a bright light then close my eyes, I see an outline of the shape in colour. Why does this happen?

When you look directly at bright light the cells in your retina responsive to light start to tire. When you suddenly close your eyes the cells responding to darkness are left unchecked by the tired light cells and so they fire really strongly causing the after image you see.
