• Question: Hi Mako, how can heat and light from the sun or daylight create electricity in solar panels. We have a solar panelled caravan with back up batteries but have wondered how this actually works?

Sunlight contain energetic ‘minions’ call photons. Those minions make ‘electrons’ and ‘holes’ inside the solar cell to move to give electricity.

There are other solar cell that use the heat from the sun to give electricity or hot water and they have different names, but the one on your caravan only use the light.
