When the wind turns the blades of a windmill, it spins a turbine inside a small generator to produce electricity, just like a big coal power plant, but without using fossil fuels nor giving off carbon dioxide (CO2)!
There are two ways to change sunlight into power.
The first one is called photovoltaic, PV for short. This is the one you can normally see on someone’s roof and in your calculator, and also is the one that I am working with. The material inside the solar panel, called semiconductor, can change light into electricity.
The second one is called concentrated solar power, CSP. This one you use the heat of the sun to spin the generator to produce electricity, like a steam engine.
