Most solids turn into liquid if you heat it above their melting point.
An easy example would be water. Water is a solid (ice) below 0 °C and is a liquid above 0 °C. Metals will turn into a liquid at a much much higher temperature, for example, copper becomes liquid at 1100 °C.
Sometimes chemical reaction happens when you heat something, so instead of turning a solid into liquid, you may get smoke and ashes.
