Acids are proton donors, something that like giving away its protons.

Protons, or hydrogen ions (symbol: H+), is the stuff that makes acids taste sour.

      For example:
Vinegar has the formular CH3COOH. When it dissolves in water, it becomes CH3COO- and H+, so it is an acid.
