We have to start out small so our mum’s can carry us around in her body when we are first growing (its quite handy that we are small after we pop out too!). Then we need lots of time for our brain to grow and figure out how all the bits of our body should work. We gradually get bigger and learn new things as we grow up, this allows us to gather food and use things we find to build homes as shelter. Then we want to make more humans, otherwise our species would just die out, so our bodies have to grow big enough to for that too (and to look after and feed the new babies, just imagine if two babies tried to look after each other).
